Product Description

Ottonel Muskotály, internationally known as Muscat Ottonel, is an aromatic white wine grape variety originating from France. It was created in the 19th century and has since become an important aromatic variety in several Central and Eastern European wine regions, including Hungary.

The variety is particularly valued for its intense Muscat aroma, floral character and elegant fruitiness. Its grapes can produce highly fragrant, fresh white wines with characteristic notes of flowers, citrus, ripe grapes and delicate spices. Because of its distinctive aromatic profile, Muscat Ottonel is particularly popular for producing expressive, aromatic white wines.

Growing Characteristics

Muscat Ottonel performs best in a warm, sunny and well-ventilated location, where the grapes can develop their characteristic aromas while maintaining good fruit quality. The variety generally has moderate growth vigour and benefits from balanced pruning and careful crop management.

Its berries have relatively delicate skins and the variety can be susceptible to fungal diseases and bunch rot, particularly in wet or humid conditions. Good air circulation around the clusters and appropriate preventative plant protection are therefore important.

With proper care and favourable growing conditions, Muscat Ottonel produces highly aromatic grapes with an unmistakable Muscat character, making it an excellent choice for producing distinctive, fragrant white wines.
