Léna (Bíró Kékje) Container-Grown Grapevine

Léna (Bíró Kékje) is a very early-ripening table grape variety, particularly valued for its attractive glossy blue berries, large clusters, sweet aromatic flavour and high productivity. Its exceptionally early maturity makes it an excellent choice for enjoying fresh grapes at the very beginning of the grape season.

Main Characteristics

Ripening time: Very early, generally ripening from late July to early August.
Berry: Large, oval and approximately 25 mm long, with an attractive glossy dark blue colour.
Cluster: Large, generally around 350–400 g, although well-developed clusters can reach 600–800 g.
Flavour: Sweet, juicy and characteristically aromatic with pleasant spicy notes.
Skin: Thin but relatively resistant to damage.
Seeds: Small and barely noticeable when eaten.
Use: Excellent for fresh consumption.

Growing Characteristics

Léna is a vigorous and highly productive variety that performs best in a sunny, warm location. Its shoots mature reliably, and even short-spur pruning can provide abundant and consistent yields. Because of its strong growth, it is also an excellent choice for pergolas.

The variety is moderately susceptible to downy mildew, powdery mildew and grey mould, so regular plant protection and good canopy ventilation are recommended. With proper care, it produces attractive blue clusters very early in the season.
