Product Description

Guzal Kara is a Central Asian table grape variety, developed from a cross between Katta Kurgan and Dodrelabi. It is particularly valued for its large blue-black berries, attractive clusters, crisp juicy flesh and pleasant refreshing flavour.

Main Characteristics

Ripening time: Late, generally ripening from late September to early October in Central European conditions.
Berry: Large to very large, round to slightly oval, approximately 6–8 g, with a deep blue-black colour and heavy natural bloom.
Cluster: Medium to large, conical or cylindrical-conical and relatively loose, generally around 300–500 g.
Flavour: Sweet, harmonious and refreshing, with fleshy, juicy and crisp pulp.
Seeds: Usually 2–3 seeds per berry.
Use: Excellent for fresh consumption.

Key Advantages

  • Large, attractive blue-black berries.
  • Crisp, juicy and pleasantly sweet flesh.
  • Attractive, marketable clusters.
  • Vigorous growth and good productivity.
  • Good transportability.
  • Berries have a relatively thin, edible skin.
  • Excellent choice for fresh consumption.

Growing Characteristics

Guzal Kara is a vigorous and productive variety that prefers a warm, sunny and protected location. Because of its relatively late ripening, warmer growing sites are particularly beneficial in Central European climates.

Its disease resistance is moderate, and it can be susceptible to powdery mildew, so regular plant protection and good canopy ventilation are recommended. Its frost tolerance is also more limited than that of many modern resistant varieties, making a protected planting location preferable.
