Arcadia Container-Grown Grapevine

Arcadia (also known as Arkadia) is an early-ripening table grape variety of Ukrainian origin, developed by crossing Moldova and Cardinal. It is one of the world’s best-known and most popular table grape varieties, highly valued for its exceptionally large clusters, large amber-yellow berries and excellent productivity. It is an excellent choice for both home gardens and commercial cultivation.

Main Characteristics

Ripening time: Early, generally ready for harvest in the first to second half of August.
Cluster: Very large, conical or shouldered, moderately compact, typically weighing 600–1500 g and, under favourable conditions, sometimes exceeding 2 kg.
Berry: Large, oval to heart-shaped, weighing approximately 8–15 g.
Colour: Greenish-yellow, becoming amber-yellow when fully ripe, with a light golden hue on the sun-exposed side.
Flavour: Harmoniously sweet, juicy and crisp, with a pleasantly fresh taste and a subtle Muscat aroma.
Seeds: Contains 2–3 seeds.

Growing Characteristics

Arcadia is a vigorous and highly productive variety that begins bearing fruit at a relatively young age. It performs best in a warm, sunny location, where the berries can develop a high sugar content and an attractive golden-yellow colour. The clusters tolerate transportation well and retain their marketable appearance for a long time, making Arcadia one of the most popular table grape varieties for commercial production.

Resistance and Hardiness

Arcadia has good frost tolerance, withstanding temperatures down to approximately –21 °C, and offers moderate to good disease resistance. Due to its high productivity, regulating the crop load is recommended. This helps the berries develop to a larger size while supporting balanced vine growth. With appropriate plant protection and care, Arcadia regularly produces high-quality crops and is suitable for both beginner and experienced growers.
