White Isabella Container-Grown Grapevine

White Isabella (also known as Noah) is a light-coloured direct-producer grape variety of American origin. Like Black Isabella, it is known for being exceptionally hardy, vigorous and easy to grow. Its distinctive strawberry-like (“labrusca”) aroma, vigorous growth and abundant yields make it particularly popular for home gardens, covering pergolas and arbours, and fresh consumption.

Main Characteristics

Ripening time: Late, generally ready for harvest in the first to second half of September.
Cluster: Medium-sized, cylindrical or conical, moderately loose, weighing approximately 250–400 g.
Berry: Medium-sized, round, weighing approximately 3–5 g.
Colour: Greenish-yellow, developing a golden-yellow hue when fully ripe.
Flavour: Sweet-tart and juicy, with a distinctive strawberry-like aroma.
Seeds: Contains 2–3 seeds.

Growing Characteristics

White Isabella is a vigorous, consistently productive and high-yielding variety. Its long shoots make it particularly suitable for covering pergolas, arbours and fences. It performs best in a sunny location but can also produce reliably in partial shade. The clusters hold well on the vine, allowing greater flexibility when choosing the time of harvest.

Resistance and Hardiness

One of the greatest advantages of White Isabella is its excellent natural resistance. It tolerates winter frosts well and shows a high degree of resistance to diseases and pests, particularly downy mildew, powdery mildew and phylloxera. It requires relatively little plant protection, making it an excellent choice for beginner growers and those who prefer low-input cultivation.
