Valek is a very early-ripening table grape variety of Ukrainian origin, valued for its large clusters, impressive yellow berries and distinctive Muscat flavour. It is a vigorous and highly productive variety, producing attractive fruit with crisp, juicy flesh and a pleasantly sweet, aromatic taste. Its flavour is particularly distinctive, combining Muscat notes with a subtle pear-like aroma.

Main Characteristics

Ripening time: Very early, approximately 105–110 days, generally ready for harvest in early August under favourable conditions.
Berry: Large, oval, developing an attractive yellow to golden-yellow colour when fully ripe.
Berry weight: Approximately 9–17 g.
Cluster: Large and conical, typically around 700 g, with well-developed clusters capable of reaching 2 kg or more under favourable conditions.
Flavour: Sweet and aromatic, with a distinctive Muscat flavour and subtle pear-like notes.
Use: Excellent for fresh consumption.

Growing Characteristics

Valek is a vigorous and productive variety that performs best in a warm, sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Because of its strong growth and high cropping potential, a strong support system, regular pruning and appropriate crop-load management are recommended.

The variety shows good resistance to several common fungal diseases, although normal preventative plant protection is still advisable. Its frost tolerance is reported at approximately −22 to −24 °C, but young vines and plants grown in colder locations may benefit from winter protection. With proper care, Valek can produce large, highly attractive clusters of excellent-quality fruit.
